Every year, The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts written tests biannually for students aspiring to join the Indian Armed Forces. These candidates are expected to first clear the written examination. After clearing the written exam, selected students are called for the SSB round.
Service Selection Board (SSB) is responsible for the interview round. They score each candidate based on their answers. Finally, an average of both – the first and second rounds – are calculated and the students scoring the most in them are selected in the joint services academy, NDA.
The cadets of Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, and Indian Army are trained together at NDA for 3 years. After this, they are sent for further training that takes place as a pre-commissioning, in the separate academies – AirForce, Indian Military, and Indian Naval Academy.
Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility for NDA Exam depends on the post you will be applying for. Read the sections below to understand the different terms of eligibility.
- Age: Only unmarried male candidates between the age of 16.5 years to 19.5 years are eligible to apply for the examination. Based on the date mentioned in your 10th or 12th certificate, the date of birth is calculated.
- Qualification: The primary qualification required for applying in the examination is 10+2. The candidates must have passed their 10+2 examination from a recognized board.
Army wings: For admission in the Indian Army wing of the NDA, candidates must have cleared their 10+2 examination.
Indian Air Force and Naval wings: The candidates are required to clear their 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as the subjects, in order to be eligible for applying in the mentioned wings of NDA.
Subjects and Paper Pattern
The difficulty level of the NDA written examination is similar to 10+2 level. It is conducted in different cities across India. The written examination is conducted offline (pen and paper mode) in different cities. The details of the NDA examination are as mentioned below.
Duration: 2.5 hours each.
